STEM HOMELABS
DIRECT MAIL CAMPAIGN

How to keep young adults engaged in STEM in the midst of a global pandemic? STEM Homelabs! The team concepted playful, engaging boxes filled with ingredients for at-home experiment workshops lead by Kate the Chemist. The box design features illustrations of inspiring STEM leaders and becomes a self-contained workspace, complete with collectable art panels. The program is supported by a digital event micro-site and promotional content. The program has 100% retention rate and glowing student reviews thus far!

When ComEd realized schools wouldn't be opening for the new school year, we found a new way to power hands-on STEM learning. 5 unique boxes each transformed into a lab, complete with an experiment, instructions, and inspiration.

What’s a STEM HOMELAB? Well, it’s a lab experiment in a box. Even more, it’s a fun, exciting way to keep Chicagoland high-school students fired up about their possibilities in STEM, while keeping hands-on learning happening at home. Plus they’re led by the one and only @KateTheChemist and engineering mentors from ComEd. Here’s a peek from our first experiment, Solo Solar, where students built their own solar panels from scratch in under an hour.

Fun little social video to increase awareness for the STEM Homelabs program and inspire student participants.
